Butler has appeared in a number of musical side projects, including Juiced Elfers, Islands’ Nicholas Thorburn, and Amanda McKaye’s Desiderata. In November 2012, he, Les Savy Fav bandmate Seth, and Amy Carlson announced the formation of Office Romance and the release of their Holiday EP, I Love The Holidays, on Frenchkiss. Butler founded Frenchkiss in 1999 from an office in New York City’s Meatpacking District. The Cat and the Cobra, Les Savy Fav’s second full-length album, was the label’s first goal. Although The Cat and the Cobra was eventually released, Frenchkiss also began discovering and signing a diverse range of bands. The Hold Steady, Local Natives, The Dodos, Bloc Party, and Passion Pit are among these acts. It wasn’t until then that Frenchkiss began to acquire the exposure they required to be taken seriously in the competitive market they were in. Slowly, they began to sell some CDs and continued to sign quality artists who were up for the challenge of breaking into the music industry.
