American musician, songwriter, and record producer George Richey was born. His collaborations with Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Tammy Wynette are what made him most famous in the country music industry. Richey grew up close to Hot Springs, Arkansas, having been born in Promise Land, Arkansas. Playing the guitar since he was nine years old, he was soon giving performances at neighborhood clubs. He relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in music after graduating from high school. When Richey and Bobby Braddock co-wrote the song “D-I-V-O-R-C-E” for Tammy Wynette in 1965, it became their first big hit. Richey got his first Grammy nomination for the song, which went on to become a number one smash. He later wrote and produced other successes for Wynette, such as “Stand By.””Til I Can Make It On My Own” and “Your Man.” In addition, Richey composed and orchestrated successes for George Jones, including as “The Grand Tour” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today”. Along with writing and producing successes for Dolly Parton, he also produced “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5” Richey has won two Grammy Awards and received multiple nominations.
