He co-starred with Dulce María in the MTV teen drama series Último año, where he landed his first significant part in 2012. He was granted a special role in the final scenes of the Televisa television series La Tempestad in 2013. He starred in the Telemundo series La impostora as a prominent cast member in 2014. The subsequent year, he became a member of the cast of Señora Acero, in which he portrayed Michel Duval’s closest friend, José Ángel Godoy. Unlike Grachi, this project included him in the regular cast for three seasons and earned him more acting acclaim.

After spending his formative years in Colombia until he reached twelve, Henao immigrated to the United States and enrolled in Cypress Creek High School. He then committed himself to modeling for several local businesses in both Europe and the US, eventually landing roles with the likes of Paul Joe Paris, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nicolas Felizola. Henao has been likened to performers such as Ryan Gosling and James Dean on numerous occasions. after making multiple magazine appearances as a model. He chose to go to Miami, Florida, in 2009, when he enrolled in acting school and learnt how to soften his Colombian accent. While he was filming Grachi, he got the chance to participate on another Telemundo serial called Mi corazón insiste en Lola Volcán.
